A fire broke out today at a waste paper recycling plant in the Kazan district of Ankara.
The fire erupted in the storage area of the factory for reasons yet to be determined. Firefighters are currently working to bring the fire under control.
Since 2017, recycling facilities in Turkey have experienced 6, 15, 33, 65, 122, and 125 fires respectively. In the first six months of this year alone, 63 fires have been reported.
On July 3, Green Left Party Deputy Çiçek Otlu submitted a parliamentary question regarding allegations that non-recyclable plastic waste is intentionally incinerated within the facilities, a practice denounced by democratic and environmental organizations. (TY/VK)
