The President of the Supreme Election Council (YSK), Ahmet Yener, announced that the final results of the 28th Term General Election for Members of Parliament, which took place on May 14, will be disclosed either today or tomorrow.
Responding to a journalist's question about the timing of the announcement, Yener stated, "After reviewing the exceptional objections filed today, we will have a better idea of the situation and can provide a more specific timeline. Let's say 'today or tomorrow.'"
The delay in unveiling the definitive outcome of the parliamentary elections has sparked various speculations. One notable speculation arose from the fact that 16 ministers from President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's previous cabinet were elected as members of parliament on May 14. However, as per legal regulations, it is not permissible to concurrently hold positions as both a minister and a member of parliament. Therefore, once these ministers receive their mandates, they will be required to resign from their ministerial posts, resulting in a complete overhaul of the cabinet between the May 14 dual elections and the second round of presidential elections on May 28.
Another speculation revolves around politicians affiliated with the Islamist Kurdish party HÜDA PAR, who were elected as candidates of the ruling AKP in the recent elections. It is alleged that these politicians have shown reluctance to take the oath required to assume their duties in the parliament.
The parliamentary oath includes a commitment to "adhere to the democratic and secular Republic and to the principles and reforms of Atatürk." (AÖ/VK)
