The Communist Party of Turkey (TKP) member, attorney Deniz Aktaş has been kept in custody at İstanbul Security Directorate Anti-Terror Bureau for five days.
Aktaş was told by police raiding his home that he was detained “as part of the investigation launched into the Fethullahist Terror Organization”. However, no official document was shown neither to him nor any attorney.
Aktaş’s spouse and his attorney İdil Zeynep Öztürk told bianet they had “no information other than what the police told them”.
Öztürk Aktaş stated that her spouse joined “no” campaign organized by the TKP for the constitutional amendment referendum to be held on April 16.
"They didn't show the search warrant due to 'confidentiality order'"
About the incident, İdil Zeynep Öztürk said:
“We woke up with a home raid on Thursday at 5:30 a.m. They searched the home. They said they held a detention warrant, which was issued as part of the ‘FETÖ investigation’.
“We asked them to search the search warrant. They said there was confidentiality order and didn’t even shot it. The computers at home were seized.
“We are both attorneys and objected to the proceeding. They didn’t take it into consideration ‘on grounds of state of emergency conditions’. However, raiding an attorney’s home or office is subjected to certain conditions”.
According to Clause 58 of Legal Profession Act No. 1,136, “attorneys’ homes and bureaus can be search in company with a Chief Public Prosecutor and bar representative”.
"No information nor document was provided"
“An official complaint was submitted but no information nor documents has been provided on the basis of ‘confidentiality order’. We are trying to learn something”, Öztürk Aktaş added.
Remarking that Aktaş was “unlawfully arrested without any evidence”, the TKP demanded release of Aktaş. (AS/TK)
