An explosion has occurred in Turkey's southeastern Üçyol region of Mazıdağı district on Mardin - Diyarbakır highway while a mine and explosives search was being carried out by security forces. Two soldiers have lost their lives.
According to a report by the Doğan News Agency, the explosion occurred this morning (March 15) at 8:40 a.m. State-run Anadolu Agency reported that the explosives were planted by members of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) prior to the mine search and were detonated while soldiers subordinated to Aksu Gendarmerie Patrol were passing by.
Ambulances and reinforcements have been sent to the region and an operation has been launched.
One lane of the highway has been closed to traffic due to the explosion. (AS/DG)
