President and Justice and Development Party (AKP) Chair Recep Tayyip Erdoğan gave a speech at the ceremony for the 154th anniversary of the foundation of the Council of State and the Administrative Judiciary Day.
The system of assistant judges and assistant prosecutors will soon be implemented, the president said. "Our judges and prosecutors, who will serve as assistants for three years, will thus have full knowledge of the system. In a sense, we are bringing the master-protégé system, which is the basis of our ahi tradition, to the judiciary."
"The principle of the rule of law"
"I'm expressing this clearly: I honestly do not want to see any prosecutor, judge, or member of the judiciary in this country with an approach that is incompatible with the law," the president remarked.
"The rule of law is an indispensable condition of democracy. Since the day I came to the country's administration, I have been fighting for Turkey's glorification of its identity of the rule of law.
"In fact, we have made many attempts in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey to have a new constitution written in plain language with a new, democratic approach. Unfortunately, we have failed due to the uncompromising attitude of the opposition parties." (AS/VK)
