Closing session of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) summit in İstanbul was held today.
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan speaking at 13th summit of the OIC has complained of member countries’ not paying their dues.
Erdoğan declared that Turkey will donate $2 million to the organization.
Erdoğan asked if the other countries would be willing to donate or not. Only Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, and Kuwait Representatives stated that they “want to announce it in bilateral talks”.
Erdoğan also announced the distribution of the donation: “$1.8 million of it will be donated to Office of Secretary General, $100,000 of it to Human Rights Commission, and $100,000 to Islamic Solidarity
Erdoğan expressed that only 20 countries regularly pay their dues and that the amount of payment needed to be paid to the Office of Secretary General.
OIC has 57 members but Syria’s membership has been suspended, thus the number of active countries is now 56.
Erdoğan asked to the member countries, “How active you can be in case this amount is not paid?”
Erdoğan listed the countries which paid their dues as Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, United Arab Emirates, Algeria, Indonesia, Morocco, Iraq, Kazakhstan, Qatar, Kuwait, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, Oman...
