President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced the latest death toll and other updates in his visit to Osmaniye, one of the cities hit in the February 6 earthquakes.
Accordingly, 16,170 people died, 64,194 were injured so far and the number of collapsed buildings is 6,044.
326 buildings collapsed in Osmaniye where 877 people died and 2,220 people were injured in the earthquakes.
"Unavoidably there were some delays"
All Ministries and all public institutions were working at full stretch in the ten provinces hit by the earthquakes according to Erdoğan who also said, "Our nation is shoulder to shoulder with our state. Our civil society organizations, municipalities, international rescue teams, and volunteers are supporting the rescue works.
Erdoğan recognized that 'unavoidably there were some delays and some deficiencies' but also said, "Our citizens know that the state is present in the earthquake region with all its means."
"10 thousand lira aid"
Arguing that they rebuilt the cities within one year after the Van, Malatya, Elazığ, İzmir, and Düzce earthquakes. And did the necessary after the fires in Antalya and Muğla. And the floods in Kastamonu, Sinop, Bartın, and Giresun, Erdoğan said, "Hopefully we will construct these buildings as well in one year."
Erdoğan announced that the earthquake victims to be identified would be distributed 10 thousand lira each. He also mentioned that the hotels in Antalya and Alanya were going to accommodate the people affected by the earthquake if they demand.
