Member of the European Parliament Manfred Weber from the Christian Social Union Party of Germany has made remarks on Minister of Foreign Affairs Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu giving positive messages about the relations between Turkey and Germany.
Interviewing to dpa, Çavuşoğlu said that Germany and Turkey are ready to normalize the ties and called on the tourists from Germany to “come to Turkey”.
“An encouraging sign but…”
In his speech at the parliament, Weber demanded that solid steps follow Çavuşoğlu’s statements.
“Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey declaring that the government wants to return to partnership with Germany is an encouraging sign. However, it is time for action, not talking”.
Weber said, “Rule of law, freedom of expression and attacks against the EU marked the relations with the Turkish government. In the recent weeks, many incidents have come to the fore demonstrating that Turkish jurisdiction is not independent”.
Green Party Co-Chair Cem Özdemir had advocated that Çavuşoğlu’s positive messages are related to Turkey’s financial difficulties. (PT/TK)
