Eight Arrests in New Ergenekon Wave
An Istanbul court has ordered the arrest of six professors, a member of the ÇYDD association and a businessman.
Following an operation on 13 April, eight of
the 39 people detained on that day have now been arrested.
Six of them are professors: Prof. Dr. Mustafa Yurtkuran, deputy head of the Ataturkist Thought Association (ADD) and former rector of Uludağ University, Porf. Dr. Ferit Bernay, former rector of the 19th of May University in Samsun, Prof. Dr. Erol Manisalı, law lecturer at Istanbul University, Prof. Dr. Fatih Hilmioğlu, former rector of Malatya University, and Prof. Dr. Ayşe Yüksel from the medical faculty of Van’s 100th Year University and at the same time a member of the managing board of the Association for the Support of Modern Life (ÇYDD).
Also arrested were ÇYDD managing board member Hamdi Gökhan Ecevit and businessman Ömer Sadun Okyıltırık.
The court released Namık Kemal Boya, the general secretary of the 68’ers Union. (EÖ/AGÜ)
