Eight individuals have been arrested in Ankara, Turkey, as part of an investigation targeting social media accounts sharing anti-refugee content.
In raids carried out by the Ankara police on September 20, some 27 people were detained for "incitement to hatred and animosity among the public" and "public dissemination of misleading information." Four of them were released after questioning by the prosecutor's office, while the remaining 15 suspects were referred to the court.
Among those arrested are editors and managers of well-known social media accounts, including Batuhan Çolak, the editor-in-chief of Aykırı Haber, Süha Çardaklı, an editor of Ajans Muhbir, Furkan Güngör, the administrator of the Haber Report page. Eray Ertürk, an executive of the anti-refugee Victory (Zafer) Party and chair of the "Syrians to Syria Platform." (TY/VK)
