Turkey’s Official Gazette published an amendment on the elementary school institution regulations.
According to the amendment, parents are now allowed to postpone the schooling start date of children between 66 and 68 months old up to a period of 1 year. Parents are required to submit an attestation to education authorities.
Some of the highlights from the amendment included:
“Upon parents’ official application, school principals are allowed to either postpone the school for children between 66 and 68 months old or transfer them to pre-schooling institutions. For children between 69 and 71 months old, school principals can do the same with a medical report saying that children are not ready for schooling.”
In 2012, the government implemented a law (publicly known as 4+4+4 system) setting the schooling age to 66 months. (YY/BM)
