The European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) has rejected an 2010 application on the 'Balyoz Case' by retired General Çetin Doğan and retired Rear Admiral Cem Aziz Çakmak on procedural grounds.
The case began in 2010 with 365 defendants being accused of conspiring for a military coup under the Sledgehammer (Balyoz) Operation Plan. All the defendants were acquitted in 2015 after a retrial.
Doğan served 22 months and Çakmak served 18 months in prison during the trial. Çakmak lost his life in 2015.
The ECtHR unanimously ruled that the application for the conditions of detention is unacceptable. The court cited that the applicants also made an application to the United Nations. (PT/VK)
