Drivers in Erbil: We Are Waiting For Our Friends

Truck Drivers’ Union Chairman Çetin Ünlü announced that 30 of the 31 drivers took hostage by ISIL militants were released. Located in Erbil now, driver Hüsnü Akbaş stated that they managed to contact with their friends and they have waited for their release.
Talking to bianet over the phone, Hüsnü Akbaş stated as below;
“We are now close to Erbil district and waiting for our friends. We talked to them on the phone approx. 20 minutes ago (around 1:30 pm local time), during that time they were not released yet,” Akbaş said.
“11 of the drivers were taken previously, 20 of them were kept in the oil refinery. Now, all of them are being kept in a location around Mosul,” he told.
“As far as we were told, they are in a fair condition and waiting for the release,” he stated.
Kidnapped drivers can occasionally contact with their families in Turkey via their own mobile phones. (AS/CB/BM)
