DİSK General Secretary Musa Çam and President Süleyman Çelebi invited all ETUC members to join them in order to:
* defend their Trade Union Rights,
* ensure that May Days legally be accepted as official holidays in Turkey,
* and to commemorate 36 friends of us who were murdered on May Day 1977.
"There are still significant barriers in front of organizing of trade unions in Turkey. We are still unable to enjoy an important part of our trade union rights" they said.
Referring to the bloody May Day of 1977 where 36 people died following a armed provocation, Çam and Çelebi said they will commemorate the lost ones and reinstate the demand for a parliamentary investigation into the incident.
"We strongly believe that you, our friends will provide us international support and solidarity in the actions supported by our demands" they added in the letter.(EÜ)
