A disciplinary investigation has been launched by Koç University into four students due to a stand opened for November 25 International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.
The investigation was filed over “hanging unauthorized banners and placards”, and the students were summoned to testify.
In the statement made to bianet by the students who are facing the investigation, it was stated that the investigation was launched into three women students at the stand and one male student who came to visit the stand.
“The stand remained open for a few hours”
Speaking on the condition of anonymity, the student said they opened a stand at the Student Center to make a call for the night rally that would be organized in Taksim on November 25.
“There were pictures of women who were subjected to violence, we distributed leaflet for the rally, we played songs. Then security officers came and told us we have to close the stand since it’s not authorized.
“Our friends met with the dean who is in charge of student affairs. He said that it was his initiative and we had to change the place of the stand.
“We didn’t relocate the stand but we put the banners on the ground by lifting the table. No one intervened in after that. It took a few hours in total.
“We received on email on November 30 about the investigation launched into us”. (BK/TK)
