The director of the tent city affiliated to the Disaster and Emergency Management (AFAD) in İslahiye district of Antep has resigned, two staff have been discharged. Five Syrian children were sexually abused in the camp.
According to the information covered by the local press, İslahiye sub-Governor Ramazan Yıldırım and the delegation with him came to the camp late in the night and carried out inspections in the camp. Following the meeting between the sub-Governor and camp director, Ali Kılıç, Kılıç resigned.
Two AFAD staff working at the camp have been discharged subsequent to the administrative inquiry.
Following the meeting, the sub-Governor Yıldırım came to the camp with European Council Secretary General, Thorbjorn Jagland and did inspections.
What had happened?
Syrian A.H. (87) residing in the tent city had sexually abused five children two of whom were his grandchildren, two of whom were his nephew and one of whom was a child staying in the tent city.
Public prosecution in which the families hadn’t filed a complaint concluded in four sessions. The accused was sentenced to 15 years and 10 months in prison after receiving good conduct abatement.
Nizip
It had come to light earlier that 30 boys were exposed to sexual abuse in the Nizip Refugee Camp in Antep.
Eight of the children’s families had filed complaint.
E.E. working as cleaning worker in the camp was arrested and sentenced to 108 years in prison. (YY/TK)
