Five persons including DİHA (Dicle News Agency) reporter Abdulkadir Turay taken into custody during house search in Savur district of Mardin province have been arrested. Including Turay, the number DİHA reporters in prison has risen to 11.
Turay had been taken into custody together with Savur Vice Co-Mayor Osman Ok, and DBP (Democratic Regions Party) members Mehmet Sait Tuncer, Şakir Turan and Yusuf Arat on May 5 in a house raid by gendarmerie.
Turay and the four others accused of “aiding and abetting an [illegal] organization” have been delivered to Mardin E-Type Closed Prison.
11 of 35 journalists in prison are from DİHA
The number of journalists in prison was 28 in the Media Monitoring Report covering January, February and March 2016. As of April, the figure has risen to 35 with six more journalists getting arrested.
Abdulkadir Turay, Mehmet Hakkı Yılmaz, Nedim Oruç,Nuri Akman, Nazım Daştan, Feyyaz İmrak, Mazlum Dolan, Ziya Ataman,Meltem Oktay, Muhammed Doğru and Bilal Güldem who are among the 35 journalists in prison, are with DİHA.
