Malatya Prosecutor’s Office launched a prosecution into 19 students including Nuri Akman, a reporter at Dicle News Agency (DIHA), for a series of incidents at University on 6 May 2013.
The case marked the first example of a DIHA member being linked with DHKP/C as previous cases were always linked with PKK.
First hearing on December 18
The indictment accused DIHA as “a revealing news organization for DHKP/C” departing from Akman’s news photos and videos considered as “organization propaganda”.
Akman and 18 students are facing charges of being “an illegal organization member” and “propaganda”. They will stand trial before Malatya 3rd High Criminal Court on December 18.
While the indictment also mentioned of several student protests as “illegal organization acts”, Akman’s phone conversations with other agency reporters were considered as “transferring intelligence to the organization”. (EÖ/AS/BM)
