Democratic Regions Party (DBP) Co-Chair Kamuran Yüksek has been sentenced to 8 years and 9 months in prison on charge of “being a member of an armed terror group”. Diyarbakır 5th Heavy Penal Court has issued a detention warrant for Yüksek.
Yüksek was detained on May 13, 2016 as part of the same case and was released in the first hearing held on October 7, 2016.
Issuing a written statement following the verdict, Yüksek said, “It can be clearly seen that a political ruling has been rendered for me as in many other trials”.
Yüksek posed the following questions to the court:
“What has changed in the short time that the court rapidly imposed a penalty by the upper limit and at the same time issued a detention warrant on charge of [terror] group membership?
“Is it possible to consider this rapid verdict within the framework of law while the court dismissed all of our demands that the evidence be examined, witnesses be listened to and the investigation be expanded within the framework of our right of defense?” (ÇT/TK)
