Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) has filed a criminal complaint against Minister of Interior Süleyman Soylu and the police, who attacked the 700th Week demonstration of Saturday Mothers/People.
In the petition submitted to İstanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office, it was demanded that Minister of Interior Soylu and the police be penalized over “willful injury”.
Police intervened in the Saturday Mothers/People, rights defenders and MPs, who participated in the rally, as per order of Ministry of Interior. Battered and taken into custody, 34 rights defenders and acquaintances of those who were disappeared in custody were released in the evening hours.
Following HDP MPs who were attacked by police filed the complaint: HDP Co-Chairs Pervin Buldan and Sezai Temelli, and MPs Ayhan Bilgen, Garo Paylan, Saruhan Oluç, Hüda Kaya, Serpil Kemalbay, Ahmet Şık and Erkan Baş. (AS/TK)
