Various journalists and representatives of journalist associations have discussed the situation and challenges of media.
At the end of the meeting lasting approximately three hours attendants have expressed their recommendations for solution.
"Must meet public"
According to the report by Zaman daily, journalists have come together in the following opinions:
* It is possible to have legal and media institutions get involved in developments. To inform the UN (United Nations), ECtHR (European Court of Human Rights) and international legal organizations accurately, visitations and lobbying activities may be carried out.
*Public meetings may be held in order to explain public the importance of freedom of press. Reader initiatives may be formed and student clubs may be contacted regarding freedom of press. To create awareness a short film may be shot and a song may be composed on the issue.
"Let columnists deliver newspapers"
*Silivri Newspaper may be issued every 10 days, written by journalists from various media organizations such as Yeniçağ, Evrensel, Hürriyet and T24. A report which is subject to official investigation or a relevant comment of the reporter on his report investigated may also be published by other newspapers.
*Columnists may deliver various newspapers such as Zaman, Cumhuriyet and Yeniçağ on the İstiklal Street.
* Newspaper executive editors may attend editorial meetings of each other. Editorial department and editorial staff may become acquainted with each other to get in contact.
* Newspapers may be issued with a common headline and subhead on occasion. Blackouts may be conducted simultaneously and a common message may be published in 10 newspapers.
"No discriminatory language should be used"
* Websites and platforms may be formed with respect to freedom of press. Reasonable authors may be encouraged and be contacted in person.
*No manipulative tweets or comments should be made on Twitter. Campaigns may be organized on common hours with common tags.
* An executive committee may be formed amongst journalists. With attendance of specialist journalists, common declarations may be published. Discriminatory language such as “parallel”, “pool”, “congregation” or “Doğan media” should not be used and class labelling should be avoided.
* A solution should be found for oppressed newspapers and television channels to obtain their existence and develop their advertorial existence.
