Co-mayors of Hakkari city, Yüksekova district in Hakkari and Nusaybin district in Mardin have been replaced with trustees.
Hakkari Governor İdris Akbıyık, Nusaybin District Governor Mehmet Balıkçılar and Yüksekova District Governor Osman Doğramacı have been appointed as deputy-mayors.
Numerous co-mayors from the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) in Kurdish-majority cities were detained in police raids on Tuesday (October 15). Hakkari Mayor Cihan Karaman, Nusaybin co-mayors Semire Nergiz and Ferhat Kut and Yüksekova co-mayors Remziye Yaşar and İrfan Sarı were among the detained.
Appointments of the trustees came after the arrest of Karaman, Nergiz and Yaşar in a "terror investigation."
Three metropolitan mayors from the HDP were replaced with trustees on August 19. (TP/VK)
