People’s Republican Party (CHP) Child Right and Violation Inspection and Monitoring Committee Chair, and the party’s Tekirdağ MP Candan Yüceer, Commission Members Adana MP Elif Doğan Türkmen, Kocaeli MP Fatma Kaplan Hürriyet, Bursa MP Nurhayat Altaca Kayışoğlu, İstanbul MP Onursal Adıgüzel, and Eskişehir MP Cemal Okan Yüksel have made a statement as to child abuse incident in Karaman.
The statement reminding that Minister of Family and Social Policies, Sema Ramazanoğlu said, “Running into an incident like this just for once cannot be a reason to give bad name an institute which has come to the forefront with its services”, in response to question as to Ensar Foundation whose teacher is accused of raping 10 children, has criticized the minister for protecting the foundation instead of talking about preventive measures.
The statement noted that child abuses can be “frequently and widespread seen at dorms in almost everywhere”.
Deterrence
It was stated that anyone who “overlook, don’t inspect and don’t take precautions” must be punished, and deterrence can be established only in that way.
“The Ministry of Justice has no information as to neither children exposed to harassment nor imprisoned juvenile. When we ask about it within the scope of being informed, they can give unserious answers like ‘Your demand has been turned down since the information requested require special study’”.
Liability of state
CHP highlighted that international treaties put liability on countries that are party to those treaties and Turkey is a signatory country.
“When children and their exposure to sexual harassment are in question, we will persist to witness that that no crime is isolated and the state doesn’t meet its liability of protecting children”. (YY/TK)
