Main opposition party Republican People’s Party’s (CHP) candidate for June 24 Presidential election has become the party’s Yalova MP Muharrem İnce.
At the meeting that started at 10 a.m. in Ahmet Taner Kışlalı Sports Hall in capital Ankara, CHP Chair Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu officially announced İnce’s candidacy.
İnce was elected candidate with all 110 CHP MPs’ votes in the CHP Assembly group.
Taking the stage first in the ceremony, Kılıçdaroğlu invited İnce to the stage and officially declared the party’s presidential candidate.
Taking the stage, Muharrem İnce took off his party badge saying “I am going to be impartial”, and Kılıçdaroğlu pinned badge of flag of Turkey.
About Muharrem İnce
İnce was born in the village of Elmalık in the province of Yalova in 1964. He graduated from Balikesir University, Faculty of Education, Physics-Chemistry Necatibey and worked as a physics teacher and a school principal. Later on he worked as the Head of Press of Yalovaspor.
He was elected four consecutive times in 2002, 2007, 2011 and 2015 as a Republican People's Party (CHP) parliamentarian from his hometown. For two terms he was the Republican People's Party's parliamentary group deputy chairman.
Following the loss of 2014 Turkish presidential elections on 18 August 2014, İnce declared his candidacy for Republican People's Party Chairman in the 2014 extraordinary party convention, against the current chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, resigning from his Deputy Leader position.
On 4 May 2018, İnce was formally announced as the presidential candidate of the CHP in the 2018 presidential election. (AS/TK)
