Main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) Chair Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu addressed the opinion leaders and neighborhood heads in an event held at the Şükran Güngör Cultural Center in Aydın today (June 3).
Indicating that Turkey is faced with important problems, Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu noted that the one who would take the country out of this picture is the institution of politics. He briefly stated the following:
'This is the rule in democracies'
"But the real question is this: How will we get over this crisis? What should we do to prevent the burden placed on the nation's shoulders from getting heavier with each passing day? I made a call for this. Bring in the ballot box and let's hold elections. This is the rule in democracies.
"If the citizens elect you again, you can say, 'Kılıçdaroğlu; you said 'ballot box', here it is, citizens have prefered me again.' You could come forward and tell how you will resolve it. They say, 'It is not going to happen.' If this does not happen, citizens will bear this burden further."
'Parliament has become non-functional'
Emphasizing that the state must be governed in the light of justice, information, science and mind, CHP leader Kılıçdaroğlu indicated that the Parliament has turned into a non-functional institution.
Underlining that the state is not governed now, he briefly said:
"The state is drifting around. But we will solve this in democratic ways. Together, with our friends... When I say, 'With our friends', they ask, 'Who are these friends supposed to be?' Our friends are our citizens.
"We have formed an alliance and called it the Nation's Alliance. What do all of us say? Democracy, a reinforced parliamentary system, a country which is developing and growing, an understanding of politics which gives account to its people... We will make all of these come true; but with your votes, by democratic means... We will lead Turkey into the light together." (AS/SD)
