The chief prosecutor did not see any reason to correct the sentencing decisions handed out to ten police officers in the torture trial. Police officers Halil Emir, Ramazan Kolat, Musa Gecer, Engin Erdogan, Turgut Ozcan and Atilla Gurbuz had demanded a correction from the chief prosecutor.
The decision to be enforced
The chief prosecutor sent the file to the Manisa prosecutor to enforce the decision.
A Manisa court had sentenced police officers Engin Erdogan, Musa Gecer and Ramazan Kolat to 110 months, Turgut Ozcan to 70 months, Atilla Gurbuz to 100 months and Halil Emir to 130 months in prison for torturing 14 teenagers detained for putting up leftist posters in 1995.
The police officers who did not ask for a correction, Fevzi Aydoga and Mehmet Emin were sentenced to 110 months in prison, Levent Ozvez to 120 months and Turgut Demirel to 60 months. According to Turkey's sentencing laws, Aydoga and Dal will serve three years and eight months in prison, while Ozvez serves four years, and Demirel serves two years in prison.(EA/NM)
