Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) MP Meral Danış Beştaş has submitted a parliamentary question regarding the recounts still not being completed and some winning candidates not being given a mandate.
After the March 31 local elections, the recount is still continuing in İstanbul and the Supreme Election Council (YSK) ruled that those who were discharged from a public post upon a statutory decree shall not be given mandate even if they won the elections.
Asserting that such practices "disregard the election law," Danış Beştaş said the objectivity of the YSK is disputable now.
"Secret documents were attached to the AKP application"
Danış Beştaş gave the following information in the parliamentary question he directed at Minister of Justice Abdülhamit Gül:
"It was covered on the press that information and documents that must be confidential and are at the stage of preparation were included in the attachments of the file that AKP (the ruling Justice and Development Party) submitted to the Supreme Election Council with the request of the cancellation of the election in Büyükçekmece [district in İstanbul].
"According to the reports, No. 2019/2708 investigation file of the Büyükçekmece Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, administrative investigation file of the Büyükçekmece District Governorship, and arrestees and convicts who are in the voter lists were included in the attachments of the appeal file of the AKP İstanbul Provincial Chairpersonship."
"Were the applications made upon confidential information?"
Danış Beştaş directed the following questions at Minister Gül:
"Is it true that confidential files in the district of Büyükçekmece in İstanbul were given to the AKP İstanbul Provincial Chairpersonship?
"If it is true, upon which order the prosecutor's office gave the confidential files to the AKP provincial organization?
"Why did your ministry get involved in the election campaign and caused unlawful operations to be done?
"Were the applications by AKP for the winning candidates not be mandated made upon this confidential information?
"Did the AKP made appeals against the winning candidates with this confidential information?
"Is it legitimate that a candidate who did not win the election at the ballot box to get a certificate of election and assume office?" (AS/VK)
