Call to Surrender Instead of Ambulance for Wounded in Cizre

Ambulances set off upon talks held with Ministry of Interior to retrieve wounded stuck in a basement in Turkey’s southeastern Cizre district of Şırnak province are not let in.

Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Şırnak MP, Faysal Sarıyıldız stated that despite all the talks held with the ministry and sub-Governorship, the ambulances are not allowed to reach the wounded.

Sarıyıldız expressing that the wounded are asked to leave the building but the wounded are in no condition to walk, noted that the wounded have been “called to surrender”.

“They ask the wounded to come down street and go to hospital”

Sarıyıldız explained to bianet what happened as follows:

“As a result of the talks, they firstly asked the wounded to come down the street to go to hospital. We in return said these people are heavily wounded and five among them lost their lives because of that. In order to make things easier, we suggested their families to go and take them to ambulance.

“As it is not accepted, it was settled to have 5-6 staff of the municipality head for the wounded by funeral vehicle and ambulance and take them into hospital. We felt happy even for this as there won’t be more casualties.

“Nevertheless, the ambulances are being kept in another neighborhood. We’ve come to realized that all this was a plot to suppress the reactions.

“The message sent by the wounded 30 minutes ago says, ‘We are in no condition to stand up, yet they call us to surrender but we have been making a call to go to hospital for five days, someone needs to come and get us’.

“These people are already waiting injured in a building blockaded. Thus, even though it is meaningless to shoot on it, they ceaselessly call them to surrender”.

Sub-Governor called for the deceased to be taken to hospital

Sarıyıldız relayed the talk with Ministry of Interior as follows:

“The sub-Governor gave names of 12 people and said, ‘If those are the ones in the building in question, may they come down to street and we will take them to hospital’. Two of those had lost their lives as the sub-Governor said these.

“The sub-Governor is a neutral element, the Governor runs this operation and the Governor tackles head on everybody”. (ÇT/TK)
