Call in Front of Historical Gate to Attend Hearing of Academics

Education and Science Laborers Union (Eğitim Sen) İstanbul Universities Branch No. 6 has made call in front of İstanbul University for participation for the hearing of the four imprisoned academics to be held in İstanbul Courthouse in Çağlayan tomorrow (April 22).

Assist. Prof. Dr. Esra Mungan, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kıvanç Ersoy, Assist. Prof. Dr. Muzaffer Kaya, and Assist. Prof. Dr. Meral Camcı were arrested over “terror propaganda” for signing the declaration entitled “We will not be a party to this crime”. The academics will stand trial in their first hearing in İstanbul Courthouse in Çağlayan district at 2 p.m. tomorrow.

Third Hearing of Cumhuriyet daily’s Editor-in-Chief Can Dündar, and its Ankara Representative Erdem who are being tried over National Intelligence Agency (MİT) trucks reports will be held in the morning on the same day.

Selçuk Erez: They’ve shown path of reason

Eğitim Sen İstnabul Universities Branch No. 6 has made call in front of İstanbul University for participation for the hearing of the four imprisoned academics.

President of İstanbul Medical Chamber, Selçuk Erez said “The academics are being accused of being separatist, yet the truth is the opposite”.

“The academics have shown path of reason. They said ‘Negotiations will begin sooner or later, shall peace be realized now, if goes on for another five years, killings will continue, the indignation to be experience will disable peace.

“Their peace demand doesn’t injure integrity of the country, on the contrary defends integrity. Those who accuse them, don’t want peace are the separatists. We will be at Çağlayan tomorrow to scream of this truth”.

Görkem Doğan: Let us respond with solidarity festival

Eğitim Sen İstnabul Universities Branch No. 6 President, Görkem Doğan said, “We are face to face with being pointed as target by the President [Recep Tayyip Erdoğan] and discharge operation”.

“The arrest of the academics is one of intimidation stops. They thought universities would be silenced but they’ve seen that the universities haven’t remained silent. Our friends appearing before court officers will scream their rightfulness to the world.

“Can Dündar and Erdem Gül will be at the hearing on the same day. We will face a day of judgement threatening independence of jurisdiction, supremacy of law, freedom of expression and democracy. We want to respond to it by turning this into a solidarity festival”. (BK/TK)
