A boat carrying refugees has sunk offshore Davutlar of Kuşadası district in İzmir. 11 people have lost their lives, nine others have been rescued.
According to a report by Hürriyet daily, units taking action after the Coast Guard Command received a report at 1:57 p.m. today (March 24) have detected that a boat carrying refugees has sunk offshore in Davutlar of Kuşadası district in Turkey's western İzmir province.
11 people have lost their lives, nine others have been rescued. The search and rescue works have been ended since the rescued have reported that there had been 20 people on the boot initially.
According to date of Amnesty International, in 2016, 257,768 refugees passed to Europe by sea. 3,120 refugees lost their lives or went missing while passing the Mediterranean Sea heading to Europe. (BK/DG)
