Aren Yıldırım, an editor for bianet Kurdish, was taken into custody during a police raid on his home in Üsküdar, İstanbul, at around 6 a.m.
He was taken to the İstanbul Security Directorate in the Fatih district.
Yıldırım's lawyer Ülkü Şahin said access to the file was restricted and there was a 24-hour ban on lawyer visits, until 10 a.m. tomorrow.
Later in the day, his lawyers said the detention was extended for 24 hours.
Who is Aren Yıldırım?
Aren Yıldırım is a linguist, translator, and journalist.
He wrote two books entitled "A Guide to Spoken Kurdish" and "A Guide to Spoken Kurdish for Foreigners" (Bo Bîyanîyan Kitêbî Fêrbûnî Kurdî).
Yıldırım has been working for bianet since 2019.
