Before his appointment with Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım, President of the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government Masoud Barzani has met with Mardin Metropolitan co-Mayor Ahmet Türk, who has been discharged from office by a statutory decree, and Ağrı co-Mayor Sırrı Sakık.
Sakık as to the meeting said that they had discussed about "how to get back to the spirit of 2013", when the peace negotiations had started.
According to the report of Özlem Çelik from Gazete Duvar, some highlights from Sakık's remarks are as follows;
"Everybody is concerned"
"Our priority is to get the country out of this see of blood, what can we do? Everybody is concerned that a new bloody period would start with the beginning of spring.
"The Kurds in Turkey have been experiencing this for a long time. Barzani is an actor who has both a good communication with the government and is respected in the public opinion".
"How to get back to the spirit of 2013?"
"Barzani is a person who has contributed to the process since 2013, the beginning of the peace negotiations. Yet at this point we have come, there are again clashes and Barzani has to have some responsibilities. We have discussed with him about how we could get back to the spirit of 2013.
"We have talked about the fact that Kurdish politicians, co-chairs, MPs, mayors, political party leaders should come to get back on their duty and how they could get out of jail.
"Barzani had met with the President [Recep Tayyip Erdoğan] yesterday and he will meet the Prime Minister today. I believe that this topic has come to the agenda also among the authorities," Sakık added. (EKN/DG)
