Under the roof of IPS Communication Foundation / bianet, Atölye BİA offers workshops to journalists, journalists put out of work, students of communication faculties and everyone who wants to do journalism with the aim of popularizing rights-based journalism.
Within this context, Atölye BİA's four training materials under the "Training Room" section are now available online as video series.
Four training notes titled Rights-Based Journalism, News Photography, LGBTI+based Journalism and Freedom of Expression under the section of "Training Room" (Eğitim Odası) on Atölye BİA, or BİA Workshop, website are now also accessible online as animated videos.
While the training video on Rights-Based Journalism features journalist Nazan Özcan, the training video on News Photography features photographer-writer Özcan Yurdalan, the video on LGBTI+based Journalism features KaosGL editor Yıldız Tar and the training video on Freedom of Expression features Media Monitoring Rapporteur - Reporters Without Borders (RSF) Representative to Turkey Erol Önderoğlu as the trainer.
You may visit atolyebia.org to access the trilingual videos (Turkish, Kurdish, English) prepared as part of the projects supported by "Haklara Destek" (Support for Rights) Project and Swedish International development Agency (SIDA) with the financial support of the European Union (EU).
What is on the Atölye BİA platform?
Atölye BİA consists of three main sections:
- Under the section of "News Room" (Haber Odası), you may find the news reported by the participants and graduates of Atölye BİA. Participating in the workshops held with the aim of popularizing rights-based journalism, journalists, journalists put out of work, students of communication faculties and the ones who want to do journalism report news by working in cooperation with experienced journalists in person and publish their news in this section. The graduates of the workshops continue producing news for atolyebia.org.
- "Training Room" (Eğitim Odası) contains information acquired from the workshops held by Atölye BİA to popularize its rights-based journalism perspective, contemporary journalism sources and journalistic materials produced by the IPS Communication Foundation.
- In "Workshop Room" (Atölye Odası) section, you may find information about the workshops' participants, trainers and Atölye BİA team.
About Atölye BİA (BİA Workshop)
Under the roof of IPS Communication Foundation / bianet, Atölye BİA offers workshops to journalists, the journalists put out of work, students of communication faculties and everyone who wants to do journalism with the aim of popularizing rights-based journalism.
Atölye BİA, or BİA Workshop, aims to contribute to the protection and development of rights-based journalism by focusing on the demands for rights-based news reporting practices, facilitating exchange of experiences with bianet editors, increasing internship opportunities and enabling dismissed journalists and academics to come together again.
Atölye BİA has been designing the duration, content and programs of its trainings with a structure based on self-learning and rights-based content and opportunities to offer multidisciplinary curricula in line with the needs and demands of its participants. Consisting of two phases, basic and thematic, Atölye BİA programs contain more frequent and long-term training modules and a supervision support that continues after the modules.
With Atölye BİA, the trainings on basic journalism and women-, children- and human rights-based journalism, which were organized by the IPS Communication Foundation in 2002-2007, and "From the Class to the Newsroom" programs, which were held in 2008-2017, have started to be available throughout the year and open to everyone who is interested.
