Arrested over sexual abuse news, two journalists released

The Kocaeli 2nd Penal Court of First Instance has ruled that Faruk Bostan, the Grant Holder of the Kocaeli Halk Newspaper, and Bülent Karagöz, the Managing Editor of the newspaper, shall be released.

24 days ago, Bostan and Karagöz reported on an incident of rape and sexual abuse, mentioning that some politicians from the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) also involved in the incident.

While the journalists referred to these politicians with only their initials in their news, they faced an investigation upon the complaint of the politicians and they were remanded in custody for "libel." The attorneys of the journalists said that they had never seen suspects of this charge being remanded in custody and found their clients' detention on remand unlawful.
