An armed attack has been launched against the house of politician Ecevit Emre in Wiesloch, a city in Baden-Württemberg state of Germany. Neither Emre nor his family was at home at the time of incident.
Ecevit Emre is a politician from the Left Party (Die Linke) of Germany and a member of the Alevi Federation (AABF) Germany's Faith Board.
In a statement released by the Baden-Württemberg police, it has been indicated that an investigation has been launched into the incident on the suspicion that the attack was politically motivated.
Emre: I was receiving death threats
As reported by Deutsche Welle Türkçe, speaking to newspapers affiliated with the Ippen-Digital-Zentralredaktion editorial network, Ecevit Emre has underlined that the attempted attack might be politically motivated.
Referring to the right-wing extremists in Germany or supporters of President and ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) Chair Recep Tayyip Erdoğan as the possible suspects of the attack, Emre has said, "I was frequently receiving death threats because I criticized Erdoğan government."
Riexinger: A cowardly attack
Denouncing the attack in a written statement, Die Linke Co-Chair Bernd Riexinger has referred to the incident as "a cowardly attack targeting the people who have embraced a human-friendly understanding of politics and have been struggling for minority rights."
Ecevit Emre was nominated by Die Linke as an MP candidate in 2017 Parliamentary elections. (EKN/SD)
