Antep Cuisine on UNESCO

Antep has been designated as a new member of the “Creative Cities Network” of the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) within the field Gastronomy.

Antep Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Fatma Şahin announcing Antep having won the Nobel Price of its field, noted “It is officially registered, Antep cuisine is one of the world’s most important cuisines”.

47 cities from 33 countries have been designated as new members of the “Creative Cities Network” of UNESCO:

What is the “Creative Cities Network”?

According to an executive board decision of UNESCO taken in the 170th annual meeting, the Creative Cities Network project has been launched in 2004 with participation of 116 cities from various countries. The network aims to contribute to social, economical and cultural improvement of developed and developing countries, and to foster their local creativity, promotion and publicity.

The cities attend to the programme within its seven creative fields of Crafts and Folk Art, Design, Film, Gastronomy, Literature, Media Arts and Music.

On UNESCO’S list for gastronomy, eight cities had been enumerated including two cities from China, one city from Brazil, South Korea, Switzerland, Colombia, Japan and Lebanon. According to the announcement on Saturday, nine cities have been added to the list including Antep. (ÇT/DG)
