The Solidarity for Democracy platform has carried out a study on the broadcasts of 17 national channels during March ahead of the referendum on the Constitutional Amendment Draft on April 16.
The results of the study show that the TV channels did not treat the political parties which run a "No" campaign for the referendum equally with regards to the allocation of broadcast duration.
According to the study, in the news regarding the referendum, rallies and speeches of the politicians, the least amount of time was allocated to Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) compared to Presidency, Justice and Development Party (AKP), Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) and Republican People's Party (CHP).
Representatives of the HDP were also not hosted on any live programme
The broadcasts of 17 national TV channels have been observed for a period of 10 and 20 days each, and the time allocated to the AKP, MHP, CHP, HDP, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and his consultants have been compared for the month March.
The TV channels observed in the study are A Haber, ATV, CNN Türk, Fox, Habertürk, Kanal 24, Kanal A, Kanal 7, Kanal D, NTV, Star, Show, TGRT, TRT Haber, TRT 1, TV Net and Ülke TV.
Most time allocated to AKP in Newscast, HDP on no live programme
According to the study, between March 1-10, Presidency was granted 53.5, AKP was granted 83, CHP was granted 17, MHP was granted 14.5 hours and HDP was granted 33 minutes in the newscasts.
Between March 1-20, the president has attended 3, his consultants 17, the Prime Minister 2, AKP MPs, representatives of AKP and AKP Mayors 113, Chairperson of CHP 1, CHP representatives 17 and MHP representatives 7 live TV programmes.
During the same period, HDP was not on any live TV programme.
The state channel TRT has allocated no time for HDP, neither on newscasts nor on live programmes during this period. (BK/DG)
