İYİ (Good) Party Chair Meral Akşener has criticized the government for high energy prices and the economic crisis.
"Today, Turkey is governed by the most unsuccessful model of governance and the most imprudent economy [administration] in Turkish history," she said at her party's parliamentary groups meeting today (March 2).
"Our nation has to make a different sacrifice every month. They have to turn down the heater and sit under blankets. They have to turn off the lights and stay in the dark.
"They have to cut down on the vitamins they get from fruits and vegetables. They have to cut down on the protein they get from meat.
"... These are policies of 'Let a well-paid group in the palace enjoy themselves while our nation is suffering in agony.' And the very reason for this is the monstrous system, the failure of which is evident as daylight."
For this reason, she said, six opposition parties signed a memorandum of understanding about abandoning the presidential system adopted after a 2017 referendum in favor of what they call the "enforced parliamentary system".
"We took a very important step for the Turkey of the future," she said, adding that the new system was designed taking into account the needs of the country.
