Binali Yıldırım, former Primer Minister, Minister of Transport and parliamentary speaker, has held a press conference after the initial results which show the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) candidate Ekrem İmamoğlu has a comfortable lead.

He congratulated his rival and thanked İstanbulites, saying, "As I said when I cast my vote in the morning, election means democracy. This elections once again showed that democracy is running in Turkey without a problem."

"I wish our friend Ekrem İmamoğlu to serve good [to İstanbul]. We will help in everything that is good for the İstanbulites. I want you to know this." (AS/VK)
