The article titled "PKK speaker Evrensel to be closed (PKK sözcüsü Evrensel kapatılıyor)" published by pro-government Akit daily newspaper, said "While fight against the terror organization PKK continues in full flow, terror organization's media organs are being closed one by one".
Akit also used the following expressions for Evrensel:
"The daily targeting Turkish nation with its headlines, has lastly backed teachers from the PKK.
"The so-called daily viewing the operations launched against the organization as war deems hanging Turkish flags in places that are cleansed of the terrorists as fascism".
Following Akit targeting the daily, a campaign has been launched on Twitter with hashtag #EvrenseleDokunma (Don't Touch Evrensel).
Polat: We haven't received a notice
In response to the Akit's allegation, Evrensel Editor-in-Chief Fatih Polat issued a statement and said, "We haven't received a notice".
"It is inconceivable on our side to accept an accusation such being speaker of the PKK.
"Akit baselessly accuses of being speaker of the PKK for headlining [conditions of] over 11,000 teachers.
"If Akit is the daily that sacks those teachers, then Evrensel will remain to be their voice". (EKN/TK)
