Due to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, this year's Accessible Film Festival will be held online on October 12-18, 2020.
To be held for the eighth time this year, the festival with the theme "Seeking the Normal" will address how the pandemic has affected our lives
Like in previous years, almost 50 films at the festival will be presented with audio-description for impaired vision and subtitles for impaired hearing.
To be held on an online platform that will be accessible across Turkey, the festival will also feature interviews with film crews and activists. These events will also be accompanied by audio-description and detailed subtitles.
The festival teams explains this year's theme in following words:
"These days we are spending our days by preparing a festival program with the theme of 'Seeking the Normal' while we are trying to return to our 'normals' with the precautions taken. We have questions and topics that we want to discuss in our minds: normal, old normal, new normal, earth, energy, cities, relationships, body, virtual self, social identity...
"While trying to return to our daily routines, movie theaters open one by one, but the uncertainties caused by the pandemic continue. We did not want to risk the health of both you and ourselves and decided to hold the Accessible Film Festival online this year. We will hold the festival online, whose slogan is 'it is possible to watch movies together'.
"Yet we will use this abnormality as an opportunity. We will have a chance to meet with the cities that we have been invited but were not able to attend so far. This will make the Festival more accessible.
"All screenings are free, details coming soon! See you very soon." (AÖ/SD)
