6 suspects have been ordered to stand trial within the investigation regarding the suicide attack that led to the death of one policeman in Istanbul’s historical downtown, police authorities said.
It was claimed that 3 out of 6 suspects were not Turkish nationals.
On December 6, a female suicide bomber who blew herself outside a tourism police station in Istanbul’s most tourist-filled district, leaving police officer Kenan Kumaş dead.
2 policemen have also been wounded.
“How was this woman trained?” said President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan after the incident.
“What was the fault of our police officer there? Did you do this to prevent tourists from coming? Did you try to covey the message that these places are not safe? Do you think that this plot will triumph your ideology in our country?” he said.
The incident was initially claimed by DHKP-C organization, orchestrated by Elif Sultan Kalsen - an allegation promptly denied by Kalsen Family.
Later on, police authorities also declared that the body didn’t belong to Kalsen.
The suspected woman’s name was disclosed as Riana Ramazova - with Russian origin. She was linked with radical Islamist organizations.
Upon that, DHKP-C released a statement, saying that they didn’t realized the plot and apologized. (EKN/BM)
