Four women died as the result of an attack on a civilian vehicle right next to the Police Vocational School in the Kurdish-majority city of Siirt (south-eastern Anatolia). Two women were wounded in the assault.
The attack occurred on Wednesday night (20 September) at 9.30 pm in the Kasap Deresi area of Siirt. The car was going in the direction of the police school and was apparently deemed a police car. The assault with bazookas and long-barrelled guns was reportedly carried out by members of the separatist Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK).
The women in the car were on the way to a wedding ceremony. They were brought to the Siirt State Hospital. Zeynep Evin, Nergis Evin, Kevser Çekin and Nurcan Olgaç lost their lives; the other two women are still in hospital. (NV/VK)
