The Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) released its labor force statistics for July 2019 today (October 15).
Accordingly, the number of unemployed aged 15 years and older has increased by 1 million 65 thousand people in comparison with July 2018 and reached 4 million 596 thousand. The rate of unemployment has been measured as 13.9 percent, with a 3.1 percentage point increase.
While youth unemployment rate including people aged 15-24 has been 27.1 percent with 7.2 percentage point increase, the unemployment rate for the ones aged 15-64 has occurred as 14.2 percent with 3.2 point increase.
Number of employed has decreased by 748 thousand
The number of employed people has decreased by 748 thousand to 28 million 517 thousand in the period of July 2019 compared with the same period of the previous year. The employment rate has occurred as 46.4 percent, with 1.8 percentage point decrease.
The number of agricultural employment has decreased by 130 thousand people and the number of non-agricultural employment has decreased by 618 thousand people in this period.
According to the distribution of employment by sector; 19.8 percent has been employed in agriculture, 19.6 percent in industry, 5.5 percent was in construction and 55.1 percent in services.
Employment in agriculture has increased by 0.1 percentage point, industry has increased by 0.1 percentage point and services her increased by 1.2 percentage point while construction has decreased by 1.4 percentage point compared with the same period last year.
Labor force participation has increased
The number of people in the labour force has been realized as 33 million 113 thousand, marking an increase of 317 thousand people when compared with the same month last year.
Labour force participation rate has been calculated as 53.8 percent with 0.2 percentage point decrease. While the rate for men has been 73.2 percent with 0.6 percentage point decrease, the rate for women has been 34.9 percent, marking a 0.2 percentage point increase.
Rate of unregistered employment: 36 percent
According to the figures shared by the TurkStat, the ratio of people working without any social security relating to the main job has been 36.0 percent, marking a 1.7 percentage point increase when compared with July 2018.
In the non-agricultural sector, the rate of unregistered employment has increased by 1 percentage point and become 23.2 percent.
Seasonally adjusted rates
While seasonally adjusted employment rate has been announced as 45.5 percent, unemployment rate has become 14.3 percent.
Seasonally adjusted employed people have increased by 2 thousand people and been estimated as 27 million 993 thousand people. Seasonally adjusted employment rate has occurred 45.5 percent, with 0.1 point decrease.
The number of seasonally adjusted unemployed people has increased by 129 thousand to 4 million 677 thousand in the period of July 2019 compared with the previous period. The unemployment rate has been 14.3 percent with 0.3 percentage point increase.
Seasonally adjusted labour force participation rate has been 53.1 percent, with 0.1 percentage point increase compared with the same month last year.. According to the number of employment by sector, employment in agriculture has increased by 67 thousand people while industry has decreased by 16 thousand people, construction has decreased by 34 thousand people and services have decreased by 15 thousand people.
