34 More Arrests in Lawyer Round Up Case
Last night, the court resumed the interrogation of 64 individuals including youth federation members, magazine publishers and theatre actors who were detained on Friday in the lawyer round up case.
While 3 suspects were released after their testimony to the prosecutor, the remaining 23 suspects were held for their court interrogations until 2am in the morning. Following the interrogations, 17 detainees including university students were arrested by the Istanbul court.
17 arrests in Izmir
In Izmir province, 17 individuals who were detained after Friday police raids also went through interrogation in an Izmir court. Suspected for being a DHKP-C member, all 17 detainees - including local journalist Sami Menteş and political magazine contributing writer Gamze Keşkek - were ordered to be arrested by the court.
This morning, the court released the list of arrested individuals: Yusuf Dut, Mert Toka, Eylem Mahamda, Didem Tütenk, Ahmet Altüzel, Serap Dursun, Zeynep Yılmaz, Gökhan Çopan, Çağlar Çevik, Ahmet Doruk Turan, İnan Sezer, Binali Çelik, Emir Öztürk, Engin Ceylan, Mustafa Özüsağlam, Arzu Yetik and Gülhan Sağaltıcı.
73 jailed journalists in Turkey
The latest arrests in the lawyer round up case rose the number of jailed journalists in Turkey to 73. The names of 5 latest journalists were disclosed as Yeliz Kılıç, Gamze Keşkek, Veysel Şahin, Fatih Özgür Aydın and Sami Menteş. (AS/EA/BM)
