Releasing a statement on its official website today (March 20), the Governorship of Hakkari has announced that 31 places in the city center of Turkey's eastern province of Hakkari and its districts of Yüksekova, Çukurca, Şemdinli and Derecik have been declared as 'special security zones' for 15 days between March 20 and April 4, 2019.
As per the Article 32/A of the Law on Military Forbidden Areas and Security Zones, the entry to the 31 places declared as 'Special Security Zones' without permission has been banned.
The Governorship of Hakkari has referred to "the activities of the separatist terrorist organization and other terrorist organizations" as a justification for the declaration of 'Special Security Zones.'

Population of city center is 239, 455 and of rural area is 97,126, amounting to 336,581. 87.6% of the city is mountainous, 10.3% is plateau, 21.% is lowland.
