7 commissioned officers who have been taken into custody including 2nd Army Division Commander General Adem Huduti, 2nd Army Division Chief of Staff and Garrison Commander Major General Avni Angun, 7th Jet Base Commander Brigadier General Emin Ayık, 2nd Army Executive Deputate of Staff Brigadier General Mustafa Serdar Sevgili and 2nd Army Commandership Supportive Deputate Brigadier Zeki Karataş have been arrested.
A group of citizens gathering in the courtyard have protested with slogans as the soldiers were on their way out of the court.
2nd Army Commander General Huduti had directed the operations in Şırnak Cizre and Diyarbakır Sur in winter months.
Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım has said in his statement today (July 18) that 7,543 people have been taken into custody and 316 people have been arrested.
“These numbers can change. I am giving the current numbers. 100 out of 7,543 people are police, 6,038 are soldier, 755 are judge-state attorney, 650 are civilian.” (NV/UA)
