Police waited with Riot Control Vehicles and barricades ahead of the 16th İstanbul LGBTI+ Pride Parade planned to be organized as part of the 26th İstanbul LGBTI+ Pride Week.
As a result of the negotiations made with the police, it was announced that a group of 100 people were allowed to issue a statement for the press on Mis Street. After the talks, the activists were told that there won’t be a parade but only statement for the press. The statement was realized on Mis Street as planned.
After that, a group that rallied at Odakule at around 7 p.m. made a second statement for the press.
Ahead of the statement for the press planned to be held in Cihangir at 8 p.m., police dispersed people sitting at the cafes.
11 people were taken into custody.
Municipality cameras are out of service
Tünel Square and Cihangir Square were closed with safety strips.
İstanbul Metropolitan Municipality’s cameras recording Taksim Square and İstiklal Street are seen to be out of service.
In the previous years as well, the municipality cameras were turned off on Pride Parade day. (ÇT/TK)
