First verdict has been rendered in trial of commanders as to “July 15 coup attempt by Fethullahist Terror Organization (FETÖ)”.
Then Erzurum Gendarmerie Regional Command Chief of Staff Murat Koçak, who was alleged to be “Erzurum Martial Law Commander”, and former Operation and Public Security Branch Director Staff Major Murat Yılmaz have been each sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment.
According to state run Anadolu Agency, attending the hearing held by Erzurum 2nd Heavy Penal Court, arrested defendants Koçak and Yılmaz rejected the charges and demand their acquittal.
The court sentenced Yılmaz and Koçak to aggravated life imprisonment on charge of “Violating the Constitution”.
The court also ruled no reduction in their penalties. (NV/TK)
