19 Poets Yes for Peace and Solution
During the Lefkosa municipality second annual Poetry Festival poets from Cyprus, Turkey, Algeria, Macedonia made a statement and say: Whatever the result of the referenda we will continue to work together for a truly peaceful island.
Neşe Yaşın, Yorgos Moleskis , Fikret Demirağ, Tamer Öncül, Niki Marangou, Neriman Cahit, Elli Peonidu, Filiz Naldöven, Stefanos Stefanides, Feriha Altıok, M. Kansu, Jenan Selçuk, Gür Genç, Hakkı Yücel from Cyprus, Alev Adil from England, Hamid Skif from Algeria, Abdülkadir Budak and Ayten Mutlu from Turkey and Begomil Güz el from Macedoni came together during the Lefkosa municipality second annual Poetry Festival and made a statement.
"At this crucial moment in the history of Cyprus. We poets, from all communities in Cyprus; from Greece, Turkey, Britain, Algeria and Macedonia gathered to share our poetry and hopes for peace at the Second Annual Poetry Festival organized by the Lefkosa Municipality.
"The coming referendum will be critical in deciding the future of the island. We poets hope that both sides will give a " Yes" vote that can lead to the reunification of the island and the peaceful and fruitful coexistence of all Cypriots.
"Whatever the result of the referendum we poets will continue to work together for a truly peaceful and creative future which recognizes no borders and divisions on the island." (YE)
